The Lockhart Music Ministry is directed by Sister Betty L. Jenkins. She is our pastor’s wife and serves in so many capacities at Lockhart and in the Saluda community. She is a Sunday School teacher, the church’s Chief Musician and Worship Leader. She is a native of McClellanville, South Carolina and is the tenth child of eleven children of the late Bennie and Eliza Powell. She is a 1975 graduate of Lincoln High School and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from South Carolina State College (University) located in Orangeburg, SC. Presently, she is employed with the Orangeburg Consolidated School District Four at the Star Center for the District’s High School Learning Alternative School. She worked previously in the insurance industry as a staff support personnel at the Alonzo Middleton Allstate Insurance Agency.
She has a profound love for children and is favored by God with the gift of music and serves in many capacities using both her gift and her love to build and edify the body of Christ. Her interest in today’s youth led to an opportunity to work for the Tomorrow’s American Foundation where she and Pastor Jenkins worked during the summer months as Broyhill Leadership Conference Counselors.
She spent fourteen years at the Greater Faith Child Development Center and served as Director during her final five years.
In addition to serving at Lockhart, she also served as church musician at Lovely Hill Baptist Church in Orangeburg, SC.
She is truly a blessing to Lockhart and the Saluda Community.
