Sister Betty Powell Jenkins, is a native of South Santee, South Carolina and is the tenth child of the late Bennie and Eliza Powell’s eleven children. She is a 1975 graduate of Lincoln High School and received her B.S. Degree in Education from South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, SC.
She presently works as a Mentor and Instructional Lab Supervisor at the Star Center for the District’s High School Learning Alternative School for Orangeburg Consolidated Schools District Four in Orangeburg, SC. She previously worked in the insurance industry as a staff support personnel at the Alonzo Middleton Allstate Insurance Agency. She also spent fourteen years at the Greater Faith Child Development Center and served as Director during her final five years. In addition to serving at Lockhart, she also served as church musician at Lovely Hill Baptist Church in Orangeburg, SC.
Betty has a profound love for children and is favored by God with the gift of music and serves in many capacities using both her gift and her love to build and edify the body of Christ. Her interest in today’s youth led to an opportunity to work for the “Tomorrow’s American Foundation” where she and Pastor Jenkins worked during the summer months as Broyhill Leadership Conference Counselors. Here at Lockhart, she also serves as Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Musician along with various services as the need calls. She truly is a blessing to this body of Christ.
